![]() Pros: Extremely fast for the storage size, and the price is pretty hard to beat when you need the most storage possible in a dense environment. I'm very happy with its performance and as I said above, I guess I got one of the good ones because it is quiet and has pretty low vibration. ![]() I needed to transfer about 800GB from one system to another and then plan on using this in my windows home server system, so it was important to me to be able to move it between systems without having to reformat or play games with the partitions. Once you get above 2GB you end up worrying about partition size and GPT partitions, and then you may have problems moving the drive from system to system without re-formatting from scratch. Overall Review: These drives are about as good as it gets, especially for backwards compatibility. Or you can quick format it and hope it doesn't have any problems, if you need it ready sooner, but the saying "hope is not a very good risk management strategy" applies. This is not a problem with the drive, just realize that if you aren't doing a quick format (a bad idea the first time you use a drive, in my opinion), it may be a while before the drive is ready to use. No problems getting the drive recognized and formatted, and its about as fast as it gets for a conventional consumer-level hard drive.Ĭons: It took about 20 hours to do a full format using an external USB enclosure. The box had a big dent in it but the drive was luckily packed pretty well I guess, with the drive wrapped in bubble wrap and packed with foam peanuts.
